The use of salt therapy is rooted in the Ancient Greece, where "halo" means salt and "speleon" means cave and became very popular in the 19th century, when it was scientifically discovered that the salt miners rarely suffered from respiratory problems or colds, despite the harsh working conditions and lack of sufficient food.
As the miners worked, salt-micro-sized particles were thrust into the air and inhaled.
A respiratory therapy which involves breathing in salt-infused air within the microclimate of a salt mine. In 1958, the salt mines of Wieliczka, Poland, opened the first Speleotherapy health resort. Some of these salt mines still exist and continue to offer benefits to the many hundreds of people who visit them.
Today, Speleotherapy has become a widely used alternative to drug treatment for respiratory conditions in many countries.
An above-ground alternative to Speleotherapy, made possible by the use of pure sodium chloride placed into a halogenerator, which crushes and grinds it into micro-sized particles and disperses into the room as a salt aerosol.
While you relax in a salt room, the low concentration of salt is infused into all areas of your lungs, where it helps to loosen and dissolve phlegm and kill micro-organisms that cause infections.
Phlegm, allergens, other bacteria and small impurities are later coughed up or leave the body through other natural ways. The treatment helps to reduce inflammation by destroying bacteria and strengthening the immune system.
